Make a Scene: A (Virtual) Passager Workshop

Four virtual sessions with award-winning author Barbara Morrison

If you’re writing fiction, memoir or narrative nonfiction, your building blocks are dramatic scenes. Using examples, exercises, and writing sprints, we’ll look at how to differentiate between scenes and exposition and study the elements of a scene: structure, dialogue, inner monologue, action and emotional beats. You will come away with several complete scenes and a solid understanding of scene-making.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS WORKSHOP?

No prior writing experience is necessary—open to anyone age 50 and older who loves to write or wants to get started. This class is designed for generating writing—ideal for beginning writers, and experienced writers looking to spark new work. Class size is limited to 10 participants to ensure an engaging experience. 

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Barbara Morrison, writing as B. Morrison, is a writer, editor, and teacher. She is the author of an award-winning memoir, Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother. Praised by Hillary Clinton and others, Innocent’s audiobook was named Best Nonfiction Audiobook by Independent Press Awards in 2023. Barbara is also the author of two poetry collections, Terrarium and Here at Least. Her work has appeared in anthologies and literary journals such as Passager, Little Patuxent Review, Toronto Journal, and elsewhere.
