Our Process
Passager Books is an independent, small press publisher. Like our literary journal, Passager, our book publications celebrate the discovery, reflection, and personal reinvention that are possible in later life.
Passager Books was established in 2005, giving writers over 50 the opportunity to publish their full-length collections with us. To date, we’ve published dozens of books of poetry, short fiction, memoir and anthologies.
We work closely with our authors in a true partnership throughout the whole production process, collaborating on editing, design and promotion.
Passager publishes approximately one book each year, devoting our staff’s full attention to its success. Because we build a relationship with our authors and their work, we only accept queries from writers whose work has first appeared in Passager Journal. Please submit to the journal so we can get to know you!
It’s such an honor to be a Passager poet. I have lots of friends who’ve been published by lots of different publishers. I keep hearing one horror story after another. From the first moment I submitted to Passager they have just been right there for me. All of the time. If you’re a writer and you’re over 50 Passager is the place.

Passager is a traditional book publisher in that authors do not pay fees for the production or marketing of their book. Authors remain the copyright owner of their work. Our books are distributed nationally by Itasca Books.
Beyond Publication
We work alongside our authors to launch and promote their book. Authors can expect a tailored marketing strategy, individualized outreach, and our continued support—even long after a book’s release. (We don’t believe books expire!)
Selected work from our books, as well as recorded interviews, are featured on Burning Bright, our weekly podcast.
While publication by Passager Books is limited to writers age 50 and older, our books are for readers of every age.
Quality
The volumes you produce are beautiful to hold and behold.
Gaby LeMay, Reader
We want every Passager author to feel proud when they see their work in print, which is why every book is uniquely designed and typeset in house.
We work closely with our longtime printer, Spencer Printing & Graphics, to produce small print runs using high quality paper, color and print processes. Readers often comment on the overall beauty and quality of each book.
